When it comes to anime, the whole industry seems to revolve around Chainsaw Man. In case you didn’t know, the series hit TV this fall, and its first finale aired earlier this week. The epic ending caught everyone off guard, but not every fan was happy with what they got. Some even went so far as to call for a remake of the first season after the adaptation was received, and now?
Well, the fandom seems to be pushing back on the request as a whole. Chainsaw Man did the right thing for most fans, and netizens won’t let this petition get in the way of new fans finding the anime.
For those curious about the origins of the petition, it comes from netizens who would like Chainsaw Man to get a new director. Ryu Nakayama served as the series director at Studio MAPPA, and this concert is their first overall directorial appearance. According to the petition, fans were unimpressed with Nakayama’s work despite his time on Jujutsu Kaisen and would like the studio to give Chainsaw Man a fresh start.
Specifically, the petition criticizes the show’s cinematic direction and its comedic relief. Other notes in the petition criticize Denji’s performance, but they are not alone. The voice actors behind Toya and Makima are also stupid in this petition.
As you can see in the screenshots below, fans on social media are pretty impressed with the petition. Along with Mob Psycho 100 and Lycoris Recoil, Chainsaw Man was one of the year’s most visually complex series. It seems wild that someone could technically dislike the show, but as of today, the controversial petition is at 2,000 signatures. But when you compare that number to the number of people who tune in to Chainsaw Man every week… well, let’s just say it’s a drop in the bucket.
