Chainsaw Man has established itself as one of the most intense shows in anime, with less than ten episodes to go. The series has exploded in popularity over the past year, and Studio MAPPA put Denji on the map with its animation. Of course, that means all eyes were on Chainsaw Man this week as one of his wildest episodes yet dropped, and fans are still reeling from his major death.

If you’ve been catching up on the anime, then you’ll know that episode eight was wild. The release followed Aki and his team as they finally stood up to Katana Man. The devil turned out to be just as ruthless as fans expected, but the audience was still left shocked when Himeno was killed during the fight.

The devil hunter had given up his life for Aki, and of course the older hunter didn’t know how to deal with death. As you can see in the screenshots below, most fans feel lost after a death, but that’s not the case for everyone. While manga readers were mostly ambivalent about Himeno, the huntress managed to amass a vocal crowd of haters who despised her history with Aki. And while the man himself is mourning Himeno’s loss, well – some fans are no doubt happy to see the character go.

Of course, this won’t be the biggest death in Chainsaw Man by far. We’ve had a few deaths before, but this is the first gut punch we’ve seen since the start of season one. By the time the second season rolls around, Chainsaw Man’s body count will make Game of Thrones look merciful, so netizens should start preparing now.
