The first season of Chainsaw Man was one of the most anticipated arrivals to the anime scene in 2022, and for good reason. Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga has become so successful since its debut in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump that the gory story was able to sell copies to such an extent that it was almost unbelievable that a TV series didn’t help promote it. However, all is not well in the world of Devil Hunters as some Japanese fans seem to have found the MAPPA production unable to live up to its source material.

The first season consisted of twelve episodes that gave new viewers a glimpse into the tragic life of Denji, a young man who finds himself inheriting his father’s debt and unexpectedly encounters an adorable dog who happens to be a chainsaw devil. . Betrayed by the Yakuza, Denji finds himself fused with his beloved pooch, becoming Chainsaw and working towards his meager dreams by joining a group of government-sanctioned devil hunters. With the first season ending with a battle between Denji and the Katana Devil, the second season has yet to be confirmed by Studio MAPPA, but it seems only a matter of time before an announcement is made given the popularity of the anime’s arrival.

One Reddit user put together an in-depth background on how some fans of the original manga felt that the Chainsaw Man anime adaptation was unable to live up to its source material, adding that the “calm atmosphere”, “coffee scenes” and “live-action” feel of series acted as a counterpoint to Tatsuki Fujimoto’s original work:

MAPPA has committed in the past that the studio will try to adapt all of creator Tatsuki Fujimoto’s works, and it will take some time to complete the first part of the Chainsaw Man manga, while the second part continues to release new chapters at a steady clip. While the first season was wild, the rest of the gory manga picks up steam, not only in terms of world-shattering violence, but also with plenty of betrayals and character moments. It will be interesting to see how some of the aforementioned moments are handled in the future of the anime adaptation.
