Chainsaw Man got a lot more interesting this month, and manga readers are still struggling with the shortage. If Denji’s journey catches up with you, you’ll know that the Devil Hunter has another burden to bear. As Asa and Yor battle the Primal Fear, Yoshida promises that a prophecy is on the horizon that will turn Denji’s world upside down. And now, a new Chainsaw Man manga theory is alive that shatters Nostradamus’ prophecy.
The idea came courtesy of Ink-Sanity on Reddit when they pieced together evidence from the Chainsaw Man story so far. Their collapse suggests that Nostradamus’ prophecy is not meant to be a literal god-fearing apocalypse, but rather a nuclear war. So first, let’s read the entire prophecy that Yoshida mentions:
One thousand ninety nine seven months
From the sky will come the great king of terror,
[Will] be revived the great king Anguloumois.
Before and after Mars will rule as chance will have it.
According to a fan theory, the last verse of the prophecy is foreboding as a nod to Yora. After all, they are the devil of war and Mars was the Roman god of war and destruction. The theory goes on to suggest that the “Great King of Terror” is exactly what we know he wants to revive Yora, which is nuclear weapons. The Devil admitted this when the Chainsaw Man manga kicked off its second half, and this theory provides a compelling argument as to why Nostadamo’s infamous prophecy always referred to the War Devil.
Clearly, the use of religious verbiage in the prophecy is consistent with how the world speaks of Yora and her sisters. The Four Horsemen are said to herald the apocalypse and the War Devil is one of the four. If this fan theory is correct, Yoru will be ruled by the apocalypse if Nostradamus was right about the return of nuclear weapons. And if those weapons come back, it means Chainsaw Man was forced to spit the deadly fiend back into existence.
For now, we’ll have to see how this whole trial plays out as the Chainsaw Man manga continues. Creator Tatsuki Fujimoto releases chapters every week and of course users watch the Chainsaw Man anime. The first season ended last year and Studio MAPPA has not said a word about Chainsaw Man Season 2.
