Aki wakes up in a hospital bed and turns to see Denji and Power by her bed reading manga and arguing over apples. Aki asks who survived from the 4th Division, with Denji replying that only Kobeni and Madoka did. Denji and Power then turned to leave as they were summoned by Makima. However, Denji notices Aki’s quiet despondency and leaves him an apple.Aki is now alone in his room and unsheaths the cursed sword and asks the cursed devil how much longer he has to live. He answers “two years”. Aki picks up her cigarette, but remembers Himen, drops it, and bursts into tears.Outside the room, Denji looks through the window, hoping to collect the manga he left there. He starts to leave before suddenly realizing that despite his attachment to Himeno, her death did not cause him to cry or feel any real sadness. He recalls the sadness he felt after Pochita’s death and realizes that neither Power nor Aki’s death would make him cry. He thinks that even if Makima died, even if he was depressed for a short while, he would get over it surprisingly quickly. Troubled by these thoughts, he wonders if giving his heart to the devil really robbed him of his humanity. He decides not to think about such depressing topics and he and Power leave to meet Makima. Tendo and Kurose enter Aki’s room to educate him about the changes in the 4th Division. Meanwhile, Makima explains to Denji and Power that the Bureau believes that enemy forces are targeting Denji specifically. Therefore, they prepared an educational course for the two of them. He starts to introduce them to Kishibe, but he is interrupted. He asks them about their thoughts when their friends died, to which they claim they didn’t feel anything. He then asks if they desire revenge, which they both deny. Finally, he asks if they are loyal to the humans or the devils, to which they both answer who will give them the best deal. Kishibe expresses satisfaction with their answers.Kishibe steps forward and wraps his arms around Denji and Powers, saying that their training has begun. Makima turns to leave as Kishibe explains that he is a Devil Hunter working with the ‘Special 1st Division’ and asks to be called ‘Master’. He then informs the pair that he likes booze, women and killing devils before calmly suffocating them and snapping their necks.
