Summary:

A young man, Denji, calculates how much debt he has left and then goes to kill the Devil of Paradise as part of his job hunting devils for the Yakuza. When he gets paid for it and pays his bill, he has almost nothing left to eat again. The old man who hired him explains to his driver that he is forcing the child to pay for his father’s debt. The driver then offers 100 yen to Denji if he eats the cigar and Denji happily agrees, but spits him out as the driver leaves.Denji enjoys the bread at their place and says that he heard it can be eaten with jam, as such “normal” people eat it. He then remembers when his dad died and the old man told him he had to pay off his dad’s debt. He then met Pochita, thinking that the devil would eat him, but he saw that Pochita was injured. Denji then offered a deal with Pochita, giving him his blood, but in exchange he would help him survive as well, and as Pochita agreed, Denji became a devil hunter.While still in bed dreaming about how he wants to eat bread and jam, he goes out with a girl, coughs up blood, and mentions that his mother died of heart disease and coughed up blood as well. An old man came and told him that he had a devil for him to kill. The old man takes him to an abandoned building where they stab Denji and Pochita, revealing themselves to be a zombie devil who turned the old man and his men into zombies when they tried to make a deal with him. The zombie fiend then orders his zombies to kill Denji, before throwing him in the trash.Inside the dumpster, some of Denji’s blood reaches Pochita, causing him to recall Denji mentioning that he heard some devil can take over dead bodies and that if he dies, Pochita can take his body and make his dreams come true. Pochita then heals Denji and transforms into his heart.Denji wakes up and climbs out of the dumpster, surprising the Zombie Devil that he is still alive. When the zombies come for him, Denji pulls out a new cord coming out of his chest, transforms into a man with a chainsaw, rips the zombie apart, and then kills the zombie devil. Denji then proceeds to kill each of the remaining zombies. Soon after, Makima arrives and sees all the dead zombies, and when he sees Denji, he realizes that he was neither devil nor human. She asks him if he killed all the zombies, but Denji, barely standing, asks her to hold him. As she turns back to human. Makima then gives him two options, be killed by her or become her pet and she would feed him as a pet. Hearing that he will get bread with jam and other things for breakfast, Denji agrees.
